Up until COVID arrived I had been doing regular charity shows to help local community groups raise funds. These usually coincided with a movie showing at the Kyogle Cinema.
One of these was for the biographical musical Rocketman, based on the life and music of Elton John.
As I was welcoming the crowd, dressed as a female impersonator, someone came and grabbed the microphone from me. ‘We have a present for you, Stan Munro,’ he said. ‘You are going to see Elton John live in Coffs Harbour.’ They gave me two tickets and a night in a motel. That was one of the nicest things that’s ever happened to me. The people of Kyogle organised this and kept it secret. And I thought I knew everything that happened in Kyogle!
